Today marked a milestone moment at Franklin UMC. Ground was officially broken for the new addition—an exciting step in the Phase III renovations of our Defining Our Generation capital campaign. While work on the lower level has been underway for several weeks (see the February 6 progress photo below), today’s groundbreaking is especially historic: it represents only the second expansion of the church’s physical footprint in more than 150 years, and the first in nearly a century.
The last major addition, built in the 1930s, brought much‑needed classrooms and a kitchen. This new expansion will shape the next chapter of our ministry by providing a ground‑level entrance, a new lift connecting the lower and main levels for full ADA accessibility, a new church office, and a welcoming reception area for our education spaces downstairs.
Here’s a glimpse after workers cleared the snow and were beginning to dig this morning:

The Franklin UMC is currently working through Phases II and III of the Defining Our Generation capital campaign. This campaign seeks to renovate and restore our historic facility so that it can be used for the benefit and sake of the Town of Franklin and beyond.
The Franklin UMC is the oldest continuously operating congregation to be in its original facility. Here’s what we’ve accomplished over the past few years in Phase I and what we are beginning to see come to fruition as we work through Phases II and III as we honor the sacrifice of past generations and define our own.
We hope you’ll follow the progress. Drive through the parking lot, come inside (especially if you’ve never been inside!), we’d love to show you around! If you have any questions or would like to learn more about the campaign or the church, feel free to reach out to Pastor Jacob and/or the Church Office.
