Seeking Clothing Donations // Community Closet @FranklinUMC

The Community Closet @FranklinUMC has been “open” now for two weeks. The first week, we saw 6 individuals, representing six families who spoke four different languages among them who picked out items from the closet. This past Tuesday, we saw some 60 people come through. We are nearly out of children’s clothing and the selection of adult clothing is pretty slim.

The Community Closet @FranklinUMC largely empty with a few coats hanging on a rod in the back corner, a large empty floor, and a bunch of empty storage totes.

The Community Closet @FranklinUMC was originally started by the Interfaith Council with the strong belief that neighbors truly can meet the needs of their neighbors. We believe that as people come together (meet), donate gently used and new clothing (share), and serve alongside one another to sort the clothing and open the closet for one another that the bonds of community are forged and strengthened. As the weather gets warmer and you are beginning to sort through your spring and summer wardrobe, you’re invited to share what you no longer need. If there are gently used clothing items that no longer fit, items you no longer wear, or you’re just willing to part with some items, you’re encouraged to consider donating them to the Community Closet @FranklinUMC, located in the Franklin United Methodist Church at 82 West Central Street, Franklin (next to the historical society). You can place your donations inside the main entryway of the church in the marked bin. Donations can be dropped off on Sunday mornings, 9:30-11a, and weekdays (excluding holidays), 8a-1p.

MEET & SERVE

Volunteering is a great way to meet others (both those who are volunteering and those who are shopping). Please note: volunteers must be able to navigate stairs as the Community Closet is in the old balcony of the church. You can signup to volunteer at franklinumc.org/volunteer.
