Book Discussion // Who Do We Choose to Be? (Perception)

Over the last several weeks, we have been reading Who Do We Choose to Be? Facing Reality, Claiming Leadership, Restoring Sanity (Oakland, CA: Berrett-Koehler, 2023) by Margaret J. Wheatley. Our discussion group was cancelled last Wednesday (May 28) and is cancelled again this week (June 4).

We will meet to discuss Chapter 4, “Perception,” on Wednesday June 11 at 7p. The dialogue and discussion will happen in person virtually using Google Meet. To join, go to https://meet.google.com/txp-ndfa-ivu, or call 1-440-467-1448‬, the PIN is ‪220 679 745‬#.

The discussion guide, prepared by Pastor Jacob, for this gathering, can be found below.

This dialogue and discussion is not a Bible Study, nor is the book explicitly Christian. Wheatley is writing to anyone looking to make a positive impact in the world around them. She challenges all of us to face reality, claim leadership (our sense of authority), and restore sanity in a world that is too often chaotic. All are welcome to participate.

You do not have to own a copy of the book to participate in the conversation, but it is recommended. We are reading the second edition of the text published in 2023.

If you’d like to hear a Christian perspective on these themes, Pastor Jacob offered his own reflections on each chapter on Sunday mornings. You can find his reflections on “Perception” and Matthew 13:10-17.

If you have any questions about this dialogue and discussion, please email jacob@franklinumc.org.
